Citizens of Lugansk Republic to obtain passports
The Council of Ministers of Lugansk People’s Republic on Friday endorsed a regulation on passports, a new official state symbol.
Under the regulation, which comes into force on April 21, to get a passport, citizen of Lugansk Republic must be above 16 years and be registered on the territory of Lugansk Republic (residential registration is post-soviet feature formally attaching an individual to a certain domicile).
The passport will contain all the information in Russian, in particular on the place of birth, marital status, children, and military duty. The document will be issued only to those having due residential registration in Lugansk and other cities and settlements of the Republic.
Now Lugansk Republic has all the official state symbols: a national flag (since November 2014), an emblem (since October 2014), an anthem and a constitution (since September 2014). Lugansk People’s Republic declared its sovereignty in April 2014 in response to Kiev’s attempts to suppress the opposition in south-eastern Ukraine. Donetsk People’s Republic, also located on the territory of the coal-rich Donbass region, was proclaimed the same month. After the May 2014 referendum both regions signed an agreement on the creation of the Union of People’s Republics, Novorossiya.
